A transformative Israel adventure with your Berman classmates and teachers.

At Berman, we are deeply committed and connected to the Land and State of Israel. One of the core ways we show our appreciation and love for Israel is through our Upper School Mission, which occurs every four years. We are thrilled to announce that planning for our 2022 Upper School Mission to Israel is underway! First and foremost, we would like to thank Debra and Denny Berman for providing this opportunity for all of our Upper School students to travel to Israel together for an experience of a lifetime.

Action Items

Registration is now open!

The most critical thing to do right now is make sure your child has an updated passport. The passport process is a bit slower than usual, so it’s important to get this step out of the way early. Please view this website for passport services.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dates of the mission and the basic itinerary?
The mission will take place from November 16-27, 2022. We will provide a much more detailed itinerary in the upcoming weeks, but one of the key features will be the opportunity for students to choose from one daily itinerary track in advance.

How do students get to Israel?
We have group flights to Israel. Students will travel to Newark on a charter bus from Berman Hebrew Academy.

Is the cost of the trip refundable if my child decides not to go?
Unfortunately, our costs are set in advance and based on a per student rate.
Once your child commits to attending the mission and our payments are made, these costs become non-refundable. If a student registers and then ends up not going on the mission, you forfeit the $950 registration fee and will be charged a $500 cancellation fee.

What do I need to do now?

  • Make sure your child has a current passport. Current means that the passport must be valid for 6 months after the mission (valid through May 27, 2023). If your passport expires before May 27, 2023, you will need a new passport in order to travel with the mission.
  • Register and pay before September 30.
  • Get excited!

What if my child has an Israeli passport?
If you have an Israeli passport and you will be at least 18 years old, you should contact the embassy to determine if you need an exemption from the IDF.

Will there be a reunion dinner for MJBHA alumni in Israel?
Yes! As in previous missions, there will be a Reunion Dinner on Thursday evening, November 24 (Thanksgiving). Save the date now, and stay tuned for more details!

Will the students receive cell phones while in Israel?
Parents may choose to rent cell phones or sim cards that will be conveniently delivered at the Tel Aviv airport for distribution. Click on the link on the flight registration form for details.

Will there be laundry pickup?
For a fee, there will be a laundry pick-up at the hotel in Jerusalem (Dates TBD).

Will there be a time to meet with friends and relatives in Israel?
Yes! On Wednesday evening, November 23, from 8-10 pm, family and friends are welcome to visit our students at Ramat Rachel. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate individual requests to leave the group with friends and relatives throughout the tour.

Will the school communicate with the parents during the mission?
Yes! We will update the Facebook (Berman Hebrew Academy) and Instagram (@Bermanupperschool) pages daily. In addition, we have created a WhatsApp group for parents to ask questions. Click here to join the WhatsApp group.
